Sir Michael Stoute – knighted in 1998 for services to tourism in Barbados and one of only three flat-racing trainers employed by the Queen – is another 2000 Guineas top trainer to back. He is the only trainer in modern times to have won a British Classic race in five consecutive seasons. He has been awarded the title of Champion Trainer a total of nine times.

Horses trained by Sir Michael Stoute have won the 2000 Guineas a total of five times – with Shadeed in 1985, Doyoun in 1988, Entrepreneur in 1997, King’s Best in 2000 and Golan in 2001. Shadeed was jockeyed by the remarkable Lester Piggott – perhaps the best and most well-known of all UK jockeys. Both King’s Best and Golan were ridden by Kieren Fallon.

Stoute’s other British Classic racing wins include:

  • the 1000 Guineas, twice – with Musical Bliss in 1989 and with Russian Rhythm in 2003
  • the Epsom Derby, four times – with Shergar in 1981, Shahrastani in 1986, Kris Kin in 2003 and North Light in 2004
  • the Epsom Oaks, twice – with Fair Salinia in 1978 and with Unite in 1987

Sir Michael Stoute has yet to train a St Leger winner. In total, his wins include 21 English and Irish Classic races, as well as several prestigious races outside the UK – including the Breeders’ Cup Turf and the Dubai World Cup.

Sir Michael Stoute trains for the Freemason Stables in Newmarket. Some of the exceptional horses who’ve come from this stable include Pilsudski, Singspiel, Golan, Shergar and Epsom Derby winner, Kris Kin.
